The second season of Fortnite Battle Royale is now underway, with a new Battle Pass that provides immediate access to cosmetic loot is now available for purchase. The pass costs 950 Vbucks and is tiered, meaning it will unlock some items immediately, but will need to be upgraded for others.
Epic estimates that it “typically” takes 75-150 hours of gameplay to get everything, which is a lot of Fortniteing – luckily the second season runs until February 20, so you have plenty of time to squeeze everything in. If that doesn’t sound like your idea of fun, but you still want the stuff, you can choose to buy tiers, also with Vbucks.
The new 1.11 update also announces a new “Survive the Holidays” event for the Save the World sandbox mode with a new quest and special holiday-themed heroes, weapons and event shop. Players who participate in the event will earn Snowflake Tickets that can be used to purchase Holiday Survival Llamas, and there will also be “Secret Holiday-Themed Activities” to dive into.
A new “global inventory” option allows access to inventory from the main menu, without having to go into a mission, which seems like a big plus, and a crafting option for the front backpack is also on the way. Survive the Storm mode has been updated and now comes in three and seven day versions, and of course there are new weapons up for grabs, including a snowball thrower available as a quest reward.
And it wouldn’t be a proper holiday update without some appropriately themed heroes and guns, so here they are:
- Sarah Claus: Alchemist – Gradually regenerates health through melee combat while wearing down enemies with corrosion.
- Blitzen BASE Kyle: Guardian – Heals itself during melee combat, has material weapon boosts, and has a BASE that regenerates the health of allies inside.
- Snow Stalker Jonesy: Demolisher – Specializes in dealing with crowds of enemies with explosive shells and grenades that regenerate faster in combat.
- Fragment Flurry Jess: Scavenger – Fragment Specialist with a TEDDY equipped with an energy beam that can charge its abilities by defeating enemies in battle.
New guns include Ralph’s Revenge, a low damage sniper rifle with a massive headshot multiplier (it’ll shoot your eyes out), another that deals water damage called Frostbite, and the Snowball Launcher, a quest reward that shoots area effect snowballs.
All told, this is a hefty update, with plenty of other additions and fixes to both Battle Royale and Save the World modes. Full patch notes are available at epicgames.com.
