Fortnite Chapter 3 season 2: start date, battle pass and everything we know

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 is here, and it’s started with a bang: building is gone.

That’s right, Fortnite has disabled building in its default mode. All those people who swore they’d try Fortnite if it took away the ability to build a skyscraper under you in the blink of an eye, or trap someone in a box and then modify the walls to shoot them before they don’t know what’s going on, finally have no excuses.

Something pretty big had always been predicted for Season 2, ever since Chapter 3 kicked off with a bang – finally adding Spider-Man, a slew of new gameplay mechanics like slithering, giant object-spitting dinosaurs, and a brand new map full of crazy weather effects.

Still, ditching the core mechanic that sets Fortnite apart from other battle royale games is a pretty bold move. What are they going to do now, rename it “Nite”? Well no. For starters, it’s only temporary. Doctor Strange also appeared as part of Season 2, he’ll likely find a way to put things back to how they were.

Read on for Season 2 Battle Pass details, official teasers, no-build mode info, and more.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 Battle Pass

The battle pass will allow you to unlock Doctor Strange, eventually. First, you need to unlock six other characters, though one of them, Tsuki 2.0, is immediately unlocked once you purchase a Battle Pass. These six characters are:

  • Tsuki 2.0
  • Gunnar
  • The Imagined
  • Kiara KO
  • The origin
  • Erisa

Once unlocked, you can work to earn Doctor Strange. And apparently later in the season, Spider-Man’s villain, the Prowler, is added to the roster. How do you unlock them? With XP earned in battle royale, or through accolades in creative mode.

On the first page of the battle pass is the Omni Sword Pickaxe, a customizable tool that gives you access to Omni Sword quests. New quests will be added every week for eight weeks, and completing them will give you Omni Tokens to spend on Blades, Guards, Colors, and Sounds in the Reprogram Omni Sword Pickaxe section of the Battle Pass tab.

For starters, building isn’t disabled in Competitive and Arena playlists, Team Rumble, Creative Islands, or Save the World. It’s only disabled in the default mode if you just launch the game and play, and it’s only a temporary change. To rebalance around it, players can now essentially park on the map.

Movement has been improved, with increased default speed and sprint speed, as well as a mantling option for climbing on objects at the cost of stamina. Doors can now be opened without slowing down as well, either by slithering through them or using a new shoulder swipe.

On the defensive side, in the absence of instant walls, everyone has an overshield. It sits above your regular shield and health and can replenish even if it drops to zero.

Since players will be using vehicles to move around more, repair torches have been added to repair them, and vehicles can also be modded with cow catchers.

New Gear in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2

Two new weapons have been added: a combat SMG with some recoil and an attacker burst rifle, a two-shot semi-trailer with a custom sight. 10 of the weapons from Chapter 3 Season 1 also return: Ranger Assault Rifle, Percussion Shotgun, Auto Shotgun, Handgun Pistol, Stinger SMG, Hunter Bolt Action Sniper, Shadow Tracker (exotic weapon), Marksman Six Shooter (exotic weapon), The Dub (exotic weapon), and Boom Sniper Rifle (exotic weapon).

Unvaulted material? Yeah. It’s here:

  • Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle (tuned – semi-automatic, fires faster, damage reduced, recoil increased)
  • Drum Shotgun (tweaked – fires slower, slightly increased damage, tighter spread, better attenuation)
  • Revolver (tweaked – fires faster, reduced damage, higher accuracy)
  • Ranged Explosives (Adjusted – increased damage against vehicles)
  • Thermal Scoped Revolver (Exotic Weapon)
  • Storm Scout Sniper Rifle (Exotic Weapon)
  • Shockwave Grenades
