Rocket League’s Battle Royale Knockout Bash mode is now available

For me, the fun of Rocket League is all in the way its rocket-powered acrobatic supersonic battle cars control. That means it’s still fun even if you pull the ball out and, say, turn it into a free battle royale to blast opposing cars out of bounds. The time-limited Knockout Bash mode does just that, which is available until May 10.

Here’s a trailer for the mode, which launched a few days ago:

It’s not just about removing the ball and changing the shape of the arena. Like the Rocket League website news article explainsthis new mode changes the controls to allow you to attack other cars, block incoming attacks, and even “grab” enemy cars and then launch them.

You can throw them into hazards that are low for an instant knockout, or you can throw them out of bounds. If they don’t get back to the safe zone within ten seconds, it’s a knockout. The faster you go when attacking someone, the more you throw them – and this safe zone also tightens over the round, like in many battle royale modes.

There are other changes too, including triple jumps in favor of double jumps and a stun state after being hit that renders a car briefly inoperable. All of these little tweaks combine to make Knockout Bash more than just a novelty.

Today also saw the release of a new Formula 1 Fan Pass, which brings a new Formula 1 car and other cosmetic items to the in-game store from May 4-10. Here’s a trailer for it:
